What churches use to engage people

Sunday is crowded with tools. Most churches already pay for some mix of a church app or website, a giving platform, live stream, and email or text. Those tools do real work. They help people find service times, give, watch, and stay in the loop.

This is a map of the usual stack, by job, including where sermon follow-through fits.

Church app and website

Examples: Subsplash, The Church App, a WordPress or Squarespace site, a custom church site.

Job: One place for media, events, and “how do I connect.”

Where it excels: Discovery and belonging. People can find sermons, give, register, and browse ministries without hunting across five tabs.

Live stream and video

Examples: YouTube, Facebook Live, Vimeo, Church Online Platform, in-house streaming.

Job: Get the service to people who are not in the room.

Where it excels: Reach and archive. The full message stays available for anyone who wants to watch live or later.

Giving

Examples: Pushpay, Tithely, Planning Center Giving, donor tools built into the church app.

Job: Make generosity simple and recurring.

Where it excels: It removes friction for the offering and online giving, so people can give from the pew or from home.

People, groups, and service planning

Examples: Planning Center, Rock RMS, Church Community Builder, and similar church management systems.

Job: Rosters, groups, volunteers, and the week’s service plan.

Where it excels: Operations. Who is serving, who is in a group, what songs and Scripture are on the plan.

Email and text

Examples: Mailchimp, Text in Church, Planning Center communications, SMS tools.

Job: Remind, invite, and announce.

Where it excels: Reach. A midweek note can invite people back to the sermon, an event, or a next step.

Sermon and message follow-through

Example: Cedarly.

Job: Help people return to the Sunday message during the week.

Where it excels: Cedarly is the follow-through for the sermon or message: a summary, one next step, and a simple way to stay with it after the service ends.

It can sit on the church app or website you already use. People can search the library, read summaries, view quotes, listen, finish next steps, and take a recap quiz on your church site without a Cedarly account. Notes and friends stay in the Cedarly app for people who want those. No sermon goes live without review by a team member or your organization.
